More Belizean Art work

We had quite a heavy rainfall earlier today. The power went down. Yesterday I met with Kraig and Barbara from Oregon and they told me that the complex next to Calico Jacks, where they are staying, lost all power over Christmas for about three days. This is a multi-million dollar complex and there were 400 plus people there. An apartment costs about $750 000 (up from $500 000 when I was last here.) The developers seem to be wanting to change Placencia into a little town in Florida. All huge buildings and concrete! They are stripping the natural vegetation off and building canals all over the place, so one can expect a catastrophe sooner or later when a hurricane strikes.

These are conch shell lamps hand painted by Charles Miller, an Art teacher from Hopkins near Dangriga. The photo doesn't really do them justice.

These wooden vessels are hand carved by Jaguar from San Pedro. They are incredible.
