I am having a BAD HAIR DAY!

The best laid plans of Mice and Men have come to naught!

After breakfast this morning, as mentioned yesterday, I went for a long walk along the beach to the north looking for the reef that was close to land. The sun was breaking through the clouds after an overnight storm so I wore just my swimming costume and - luckily - waterproof surfers' watch - Rip Curl, Made in Australia and waterproof up to 50 metres, Price R800, available at Shaka's in Durban.

I walked about 3,5 kilometres, mostly on the hard sand just below the high water mark. I couldn't find anything that resembled the Alaskan lady's description. And the water, stirred up by the storm was opaque with sand.

Just as I gave up and turned back towards the hotel the heavens opened and the rain poured down. Now, as I said the sun was coming out so naturally I didn't take my rain jacket with me. Within minutes I was drenched!

This meant I had to walk almost 3 kms saturated and in temperatures that had fallen to below 30c! I persevered, thinking of the hot coffee I would have to warm my freezing blood when I finally made it to the hotel. And then, about 500 metres from home the heavens opened again and we had an almost Monkeys' Wedding for now the sun had broken through the cloud cover. Once again, within seconds this time, I was soaked to the skin and regretting again my decision to wear only a swimming costume.

But THAT wasn't the worse thing that had happened!!

This morning, feeling full of the joys of spring, I had spent hours washing, drying, conditioning and styling my hair in case I met "someone" at breakfast. (I didn't.) The two downpours of clean rain water had completely negated all my efforts by removing the effects of the expensive shampoo, conditioner and styling gel by washing them out. The sun had done the rest and now I can't do a thing with my hair!

The photo below will show just what I mean. O me miserum! What am I to do?

  1. I still think you have more hair than I do.

I shaved off my beard yesterday (too hot at work - must be 15C) Now just have a mustache and goatee thing.
